Fancy Feathers!
JOHN
My name is Jonathan, and I’m fourteen years old. I have three macaws that were born and raised by Ursula, who owns the bird store. My first bird I got from Fancy Feathers was a Blue & Gold Macaw, and I named her Angel. I was scared of the bird at first and very nervous, but Ursula taught me how to handle her. Mr. Karl always says to me that you have to be the boss and you can’t get scared. Ms. Joyce is the groomer at Fancy Feathers and she does an excellent job. Fancy Feathers is an excellent store because Mrs. Ursula, Mr. Karl, and Ms. Joyce are there to help you with birds you don’t know how to handle. They teach you how to handle and hold them. They answer all your questions and know everything there is to know about birds. After Angel, I brought home my second bird, a Blue & Gold Macaw we named Clarence. My youngest bird is a beautiful red and green Calico Macaw I named Rosie. All of the birds were hand fed and raised by Ursula. They are all beautiful, loving, well-behaved pets. Everyone at Fancy Feathers is very caring and loves all the birds. I love going to Fancy Feathers. My family and I spend time helping Ursula feed and socialize with the birds. There are many types of birds there. I like watching birds grow from tiny babies that were just hatched into young birds that can climb and play. Fancy Feathers is very far from my house, but it is the only bird store where I would buy a bird. Our family visits there a lot and we take all of our birds back to visit. I recommend Fancy Feathers and the people who work there as the BEST IN THE WORLD!
KATHY
I was impresed with the way she approached a potential "sale". She was more concerned that Alex be matched with the right family than with simply selling a bird. She was upfront and honest and answered all of my questions. She is an expert on all different types of birds and gave me advice on how to best care for Alex. Needless to say, we left that day not only with Alex, but also with the right cage, food, perches, and toys for him. Since that day, we have made it a habit to drive down to Blackwood to visit Fancy Feathes almost every weekend. My children love to visit and help out in the store. Ursula, Karl, and Joyce always welcome our "flock" back with smiles and big welcomes. We often bring several of our birds with us when we visit. We continue to return to the store for food and grooming. If Fancy Feathes does not have what we are looking for right at the moment, one of the staff members will immediately pull out a catalog and make a special order. If they cannot order what we want or if they know a better place to get it, they recommend just the right place to go. All of the people at the store own birds and are quite knowledgeable so whenever we have questions, they know the answers! Since bringing Alex home, we have also purchased three macaws and "adopted" two cockatiels. Alex has become my best friend and is a constant companion. He likes to sit on a perch in my room and watch television with me at night. He plays on his ropes in my office while I work. He even has a special stand in my clasroom, and my students love when "Mr. Loughran" comes to visit us for the day! The big difference at Fancy Feathers is that Ursula and Karl Berg, the owners, truly love all birds to the point where they want to get to know you and your birds. You can just tell by their energy and how happy they are doing what they do that you feel immediately comfortable putting your "babies" in their care. The staff at Fancy Feathers have literally spent hours just talking to us about our birds, their habits, and likes/dislikes. We have all of our birds groomed at Fancy Feathers, and if we were to go away on a family vacation, I would feel comfortable boarding my birds ONLY at Fancy Feathers because I know they would be loved and well-cared for while we were away. I would never leave my beloved Alex anywhere else. The store doesn’t even seem like a “store.” It feels like home as soon as you walk through the door. Ursula and Karl raise and keep a lot of their own birds there, and it seems like an unending “bird party.” Because they have been raising birds for some time, they are acutely aware of bird habits, problems, and illnesses. It’s just a place you go and don’t want to leave. Our family has spent many, many happy hours at Fancy Feathers, and we hope to continue doing so. Fancy Feathers may not be the BIGGEST store in New Jersey, but it is the BEST.
HEATHER
My name is Heather. I have six cockatiels. I love cockatiels. I call them my “Sweetnesses” or my “Cutenesses”. I had four cockatiels that my mom bought for me before we came to Fancy Feathers. When we came to Fancy Feather’s, Ursula (the owner) had two cockatiels that needed help. Pebbles had been pecked by her parents and had a bald spot. BamBam was very shy and didn’t want to come out of his cage. Ursula cared so much about those birds that she gave them to me to see what I could do with them. I took them home and put them with my other cockatiels. Now they are happy and get along fine with the others. Pebbles has all her hair on her head and no bald spot at all! BamBam is still a little shy, but he is much better than he was when I got him. I look forward to going to Fancy Feathers almost every weekend even though it is a long trip from Ocean County to Blackwood. I help Ursula feed and handle the birds. Ursula, Karl, and Joyce teach me how to handle birds and take care of them. They have even taught me to make toys for my birds! Whenever I need food, I go to Fancy Feathers. It is a very happy place! I bring ALL of my cockatiels whenever they need their wings clipped or their nails trimmed. Whenever I have a question about my birds, the people at Fancy Feathers answer my questions and are happy to help me out!

So you’re looking for a parrot. Over and over again you hear that this is a lifelong commitment. You go to countless websites to research the different breeds and what will be required. Your family discusses the commitment and how having this new family member will change your life. The decision is made, we are getting a parrot. Now the hard part! Where should you purchase your parrot? For some it really doesn’t matter. But for those who are looking for the best possible overall experience there is only one place to go, Fancy Feathers. Over the years I have been to many bird stores, large and small. While the selection is great at the large stores, you get the experience of being just another customer. I wanted to know who I was dealing with, where my new baby came from, who cared for him. I was not comfortable with a bird from “I don’t know who” that was shipped from “who knows where” and may have “who knows what”. I wanted to have all the answers about my baby along with all the memories. Fancy Feathers offers a total experience. From the moment the babies are removed from their parents you can watch them be fed. You get to watch them grow and you interact with them so they know you. The owners love all of their babies and teach and guide you as you learn about your baby. I emailed to get updates throughout the week and when I went in to visit I was greeted by name and I knew exactly what baby was mine. You have a feeling of comfort and you become part of the Fancy Feathers family. My newest addition, Peanut, an Eclectus is the nicest bird you could ask for. Well mannered, handles well by anyone, loving and healthy. I knew exactly what I was getting and know that getting Peanut at Fancy Feathers was the only choice for me.
RASCAL
Rascal's New Owners - We had a very enjoyable experience buying our bird. We had just lost our 18 year old cockatiel and were looking for another bird. We were met by the owner who matched us up with the perfect bird for our family. Overall it was a great experience.
JOYCE & RICH
Ursula and her staff are the best. They introduced us to the wonderful world of caiques, and we’ve never looked back. First buying the rambunctious Zeke and then about a month later, his sweet sister Monique. We receive personal attention with every visit from the very caring staff. We love to visit the store, and take the time to bird watch and see the new arrivals when we come.

I watched and waited for the store to have it’s grand opening. I had passed the store several times during their inception and couldn’t wait until I saw the first signs of their opening. It was worth the wait. What an incredible experience! The owners were most helpful when I was trying to choose my blue and gold. I took him home with the greatest of confidence, that we would be friends forever. I sometimes think back at how intimidated I was by the birds size when I first came to the store, but thanks to the owners and staff they made me feel confident and gave me excellent advice. I now have my new friend, Caesar, home and we bond daily.

I heard about this awesome store that opened in my area and couldn’t wait to visit. I had always wanted a larger bird. I had owned cockatiels and parrotlets in the past. I found the store about a month after it opened and quickly became addicted. I bought my goffin, “Pippin” 2 months later and became part of the “family”. Ursula, Karl and the rest of the staff are always there to answer a question or just chat. I recently added my second baby, an African grey “Bogie” a 3yr old “adoption”. He’s an awesome bird who received much love during his stay at Fancy Feathers. I’ve been to every other bird store in the area, but non-ever comes close to the kind of store Fancy Feathers. I would travel far to give them my business.
JAE
What a wonderful place. I walked in unsuspecting to find friendly people like Vera who made me come back because she made me feel so welcome.
BOB
We found just what we were looking for, “Smiles, knowledgeable people and a lot of personal attention. We also found a good selection of healthy, well taken care of birds. This, my wife Ann and I found to be very important to a first time buyer.
